Maxcams fit the criteria of simplicity, strength, expansion range and weight. By floating the axles of the outer pair of cams on the inner pair as the lobes are retracted, the axles of the outer cams move inward, increasing their range. This sounds a bit complicated, but in reality its very simple and allows for a remarkable 2:1 expansion range.
While extended range may allow you to carry fewer cams on a route, the big benefit is the versatility the larger range offers up. You can eliminate the need for ""offsets""—the extended range of the Maxcam takes care of this for you.
